Meille saapui kesäkuun alussa legendaarinen vuoden 1968 Chevy C-10 Stepside. Auto osoittautui varsin hyväksi yksilöksi, mutta meidät tuntien sitä oli pakko hieman ehostaa ja tehdä samalla kunnon muodonmuutos. Projektista tuli (aina) huomattavasti suurempi kuin aluksi ajattelimme, mutta nyt kun autoa jo kasataan ja viimeisiä osia odotellaan saapuvaksi, voi hetken hengähtää ja todeta, että tulipahan tehtyä hieno auto.
At the beginning of June, a legendary 1968 Chevy C-10 Stepside arrived at our shop. The truck turned out to be a pretty solid example, but knowing us, we just had to start restoring it and give it a proper transformation at the same time. As always, the project ended up being much bigger than we originally expected, but now that the truck is being reassembled and we’re just waiting for the last few parts to arrive, we can finally take a breath and say: it was definitely worth it—we’ve built a beautiful truck.
Auton pinnan alta paljastui niin monta maali ja kitti kerrosta, että ajatus sen hiomisesta pellille alkoi kiinnostamaan. Aivan valtava työ ja monta työtuntia takana, mutta lopputulos palkitsi: C-10 on hiottu pellille asti ja kaikki ruostekohdat on korjattu.
Beneath the car’s surface, countless different layers were uncovered and the idea of stripping it down to bare metal became increasingly appealing. It was a massive undertaking and required countless hours of work, but the result was well worth it: the C-10 has been taken down to bare metal, and all rusted areas have been repaired.
Tässä lokarit, ovet ja konepelti kunnostuksessa. Hiottu pellille, korjattu ruostekohdat, kitattu paikoin sekä pohjamaalattu.
Here, the fenders, doors, and hood are undergoing restoration. They were stripped down to bare metal, all rusted areas were repaired, body filler was applied where needed, and everything was finished with primer.
Kuvissa C-10 pohjamaalissa, maalissa ja ulkona maalauskopista. Funny fact; Suuret luntut oijottiin ja lähinnä vaikemmat paikat kitattiin. Koko autoon on käytetty vain n.400g kittiä josta toki osa hiottu pois, eli hyvinkin peltinen auto kyseessä. Väri valittiin sen takia että on kuitenkin vanha auto ja tiukka aikataulu. Väri valittiin sen takia mataksi, että tällä menetelmällä se ei suoraan sanoen luotisuora ole…

C-10 FINAL RESULT
Uusi lattiamatto ja uudemman letukan sohvapenkki ovat nyt paikoillaan. Vielä odotamme muutamia alustan osia sekä joitakin tiivisteitä ennen viimeistelyä.
C-10 on mielestämme saanut upean uuden ilmeen – mitä pidät lopputuloksesta?
Varustuksena LS-moottori ja ilmajousitus, ja auto on myös huollettu. Tulee pian myyntiin!
New carpeting and a restored bench seat are now in place. We’re still waiting for a few chassis components and some seals before the final touches can be completed.
